Union Square | Regional Profile: Jura & Savoie

13 E. 13th Street, New York, NY 10003

The wine regions that border the Alps are truly some of the most unique in France. We will explore the mountainous regions of Jura and the Savoie and their continental climates with variations in altitude and often slightly oxidative wines that have become some of the darlings of sommeliers and wine enthusiasts. Located just south of Alsace in Eastern France, Jura is best known for its lively red wines from Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir, and white wines from Savignin and Chardonnay made in an kaleidoscope of styles from fresh, oxidative, dry, and sweet. In the alpine region of Savoie, we’ll discover wines from grapes like Jacquere, Altesse, Roussanne, Mondeuse, and more. History, geology, climate, wine law, appellations, varieties and styles will all be discussed.
