France: Wines of Jura & Savoie

Along the Alpine border where France meets Switzerland are the unique regions of Jura and Savoie. The dramatic mountainous regions endure a continental climate with variations in altitude and often slightly oxidative wines that have quickly become the darlings of sommeliers and wine enthusiasts. The Jura is named after its Jurassic limestone soils and produce balanced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as grapes like Poulsard, Trousseau and Savagnin. Just a few hours south Savoie produces unique wines from Roussette, Chasselas, Bergeron, Mondeuse and more. In this class, we'll cover: history of the region; grapes; geology and climate; appellations and producers.
