France: Wines of Alsace

Alsace is truly different than other wine regions of France. It's precarious location on the border of Germany and France helps influence the style of wine produced here with techniques and grapes from both countries: The region is known for its beautiful, unctuous white wines from noble grapes like Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewurztraminer. Cremant, Vendage Tardive, SGN and a small amount of red wines round out the offerings and make Alsace an exciting region to explore. In this class, we'll cover: history of the region; geology and climate; appellations and classifications; and vintages.
